| Name | divergent protein kinase domain 1A |
| Description | This gene encodes a member of the FAM69 family of cysteine-rich type II transmembrane proteins. These proteins localize to the endoplasmic reticulum but their specific functions are unknown. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. {"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\n DIPK1A appears to be a member of a novel family of cysteine‐rich, type II transmembrane proteins that localize predominantly to the endoplasmic reticulum and are predicted to function as protein kinases. Structural analyses indicate that these proteins harbor a conserved kinase domain—with some members containing an inserted EF‐hand Ca²⁺–binding motif—suggesting that they may operate as Ca²⁺–dependent kinases that phosphorylate substrates within the secretory pathway. In addition to their ubiquitous expression, differential levels of DIPK1A (often interchanged with the FAM69A designation in several studies) have been noted in diverse biological contexts. For example, altered expression has been implicated in neuroimmunological conditions such as myasthenia gravis, which hints at a role in modulating neuromuscular as well as immune‐related signaling events, while reduced expression levels have also been associated with colorectal tumor progression, underscoring a potential involvement in cancer prognosis. Collectively, these observations support the hypothesis that DIPK1A is an evolutionarily conserved kinase whose catalytic activity in the ER and secretory compartments may influence a range of cellular processes—from intracellular signal transduction and secretory protein regulation to the control of gene expression and cell differentiation—that become perturbed in complex disorders."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n "}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Anthea J Tennant-Eyles, Hilary Moffitt, Caroline A Whitehouse, et al.
