In recent RNA‐sequencing analyses, including work that demonstrates the convergence of candidate genes for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), schizophrenia (SZ), and bipolar disorder (BD) on common molecular targets (1), DLX6‐AS2 has been implicated as part of the molecular network that modulates neuronal development and synaptic function. Its function appears to involve the regulation of gene expression patterns that are central to brain development and plasticity, suggesting that dysregulation of DLX6‐AS2 may contribute to the overlapping pathological features observed in these complex, genetically heterogeneous traits.
