| Name | DUS4L-BCAP29 readthrough |
| Description | This locus represents naturally occurring readthrough transcription between the neighboring DUS4L (dihydrouridine synthase 4 like) and BCAP29 (B cell receptor associated protein 29) genes on chromosome 7. The readthrough transcript encodes a fusion protein that shares sequence identity with each individual gene product. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2019] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\n DUS4L‐BCAP29 is a chimeric fusion transcript generated by cis‐splicing between the adjacent DUS4L and BCAP29 genes. Although initially reported in the context of cancer, particularly in prostate and gastric malignancies, the transcript is not exclusive to neoplastic tissues but is also widely expressed in normal cells. Functional studies using a gain‐of‐function approach have demonstrated that overexpression of DUS4L‐BCAP29 can promote cell growth and enhance motility in both cancerous and noncancerous cell lines, and its increased expression accompanies neural differentiation, suggesting a role in normal physiological processes as well as in tumorigenesis (1,2,3,4). Conversely, loss‐of‐function experiments in gastric cancer cells have indicated that reducing DUS4L‐BCAP29 levels can inhibit cell proliferation, supporting its proposed tumorigenic potential. Overall, the current molecular evidence suggests that DUS4L‐BCAP29 functions as a pro‐growth factor with implications in both normal developmental pathways and in promoting malignant behavior, rather than serving as a cancer-specific biomarker."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n "}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Yue Tang, Fujun Qin, Aiqun Liu, et al.
