| Name | elongin A2 |
| Description | This gene encodes the transcriptionally active subunit of the SIII (or elongin) transcription elongation factor complex, which also includes two regulatory subunits, elongins B and C. This complex acts to increase the rate of RNA chain elongation by RNA polymerase II by suppressing transient pausing of the polymerase at many sites along the DNA template. Whereas a related protein with similar function, elongin A, is ubiquitously expressed, the encoded protein is specifically expressed in the testis, suggesting it may have a role in spermatogenesis. {"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\n ELOA2 is a transcription elongation factor that functions as part of the Elongin complex responsible for stimulating RNA polymerase II during transcription. Biochemical analyses have shown that, much like its paralog Elongin A, ELOA2 facilitates the efficient elongation phase of transcription by relieving transient pausing of the polymerase along the DNA template. Unlike the canonical Elongin A, however, the transcriptional activity of ELOA2 is not further enhanced by association with the regulatory Elongin BC complex. In addition, tissue‐specific expression patterns—such as prominent testis expression—suggest that ELOA2 could be involved in regulating the transcription of genes pertinent to reproductive function. These findings, along with structural comparisons indicating moderate sequence identity to Elongin A, underscore the role of ELOA2 in modulating RNA polymerase II processivity during gene transcription."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n "}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Katsuhisa Yamazaki, Limei Guo, Kazunori Sugahara, et al.
