Name G protein-coupled receptor 15 ligand
Description Enables chemokine activity. Involved in several processes, including defense response to other organism; mast cell degranulation; and negative regulation of cell cycle G1/S phase transition. Located in extracellular region. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nGPR15LG, also known as C10orf99 (or AP‐57), is a multifunctional secreted peptide that contributes to host defense and epithelial homeostasis. It is highly expressed in skin and mucosal tissues such as the stomach and colon, where it exhibits broad‐spectrum antimicrobial activities against bacteria, fungi, mycoplasma, and certain viruses. In addition to its antimicrobial properties, GPR15LG has been shown to bind DNA and selectively affect cell viability, suggesting roles in both innate immunity and the regulation of cellular proliferation."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent studies have highlighted the involvement of GPR15LG in inflammatory skin disorders such as psoriasis. In psoriatic lesions, GPR15LG is markedly up‐regulated and functions to promote keratinocyte proliferation by facilitating the G1/S transition. Its action appears to be linked to the activation of the NF‑κB pathway, thereby enhancing the expression of key inflammatory cytokines—including IL‑1α, IL‑1β, TNF‑α, and S100A7—and contributing to the development and persistence of skin inflammation. Knockdown experiments in both cellular and murine models have demonstrated that reducing GPR15LG levels leads to a significant amelioration of psoriatic dermatitis, underscoring its potential as a therapeutic target."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Meijia Yang, Mei Tang, Xianjun Ma, et al.
