| Name | H2A.B variant histone 3 |
| Description | Histones are basic nuclear proteins that are responsible for the nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. Nucleosomes consist of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of each of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4). The chromatin fiber is further compacted through the interaction of a linker histone, H1, with the DNA between the nucleosomes to form higher order chromatin structures. This gene encodes a replication-independent histone that is a member of the histone H2A family. This gene is part of a region that is repeated three times on chromosome X, once in intron 22 of the F8 gene and twice closer to the Xq telomere. This record represents the most telomeric copy. {"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\n H2A.B.3 is a specialized histone variant that contributes to a more “open” and dynamic chromatin architecture, particularly in the context of transcription and RNA processing during spermatogenesis. In the mouse testis, H2A.B.3 is highly expressed in haploid round spermatids where its incorporation into nucleosomes results in less stable, more rapidly exchanging particles. This relaxed nucleosome structure favors the establishment of active chromatin domains by facilitating the direct interaction of RNA polymerase II and splicing factors with chromatin, thereby promoting efficient transcription and proper pre‐mRNA processing. Consistent with these functions, loss of H2A.B.3 leads to mislocalization of transcription machinery, altered splicing patterns, and defects in sperm morphology that manifest as subfertility. Moreover, studies on closely related variants have demonstrated that such H2A family members confer increased nucleosome flexibility and enhanced chromatin remodeling properties, which are critical for establishing a transcriptionally competent environment."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n "}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Nur Diana Anuar, Sebastian Kurscheid, Matt Field, et al.
