H2AC11 Gene

Name H2A clustered histone 11
Description Histones are basic nuclear proteins that are responsible for the nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. Two molecules of each of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4) form an octamer, around which approximately 146 bp of DNA is wrapped in repeating units, called nucleosomes. The linker histone, H1, interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes and functions in the compaction of chromatin into higher order structures. This gene is intronless and encodes a replication-dependent histone that is a member of the histone H2A family. Transcripts from this gene lack polyA tails but instead contain a palindromic termination element. This gene is found in the histone microcluster on chromosome 6p21.33. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2015]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\n H2AC11 is a replication‐dependent core histone belonging to the H2A family that plays a critical role in the packaging of DNA into nucleosomes and the regulation of gene expression. As a structural component of chromatin, H2AC11 contributes to the formation of higher‐order chromatin architecture, thereby influencing genomic accessibility, transcriptional programs, and ultimately cell cycle progression. In normal cells the tight regulation and proper 3′ end processing of replication‐dependent histone mRNAs—including those encoding H2A variants—is essential for cell proliferation and maintenance of genomic integrity."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " Alterations in the expression and regulation of histone genes, such as aberrant up‐regulation or dysregulated post‐translational modifications, have been implicated in various human malignancies.
