| Name | microRNA 10b |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In breast cancer, for example, MIR10B is induced by the transcription factor Twist and suppresses the translation of the tumor‐suppressive homeobox gene HOXD10, thereby unleashing pro‐metastatic effectors such as RHOC. Similar observations in glioma reveal that increased MIR10B levels correlate with higher tumor grade and invasive behavior, reinforcing its role as a driver of cancer aggressiveness and metastasis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn addition to its upregulation, MIR10B functions by directly targeting critical tumor suppressors. In glioblastoma, for instance, suppression of HOXD10 by MIR10B leads to enhanced expression of invasion‐associated proteins, while its high levels are linked to diminished apoptosis and unchecked cell cycle progression. Furthermore, in certain breast cancer models, MIR10B downregulates syndecan-1, thereby modulating cytoskeletal dynamics via Rho GTPase–dependent signaling and promoting an invasive phenotype."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "4", "end_ref": "6"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn gastrointestinal malignancies, MIR10B also serves as both a functional mediator and a potential diagnostic biomarker. In pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, elevated MIR10B expression marks aggressive disease and functions, in part, by downregulating TIP30 to promote epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling and cross-talk with transforming growth factor‑β pathways. In gastric tumors, MIR10B-mediated suppression of HOXD10 activates RhoC and AKT signaling, fostering cell migration and invasion. Moreover, in colorectal cancer, higher circulating levels of MIR10B correlate with chemoresistance and lymph node metastasis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "7", "end_ref": "10"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nBeyond gastrointestinal and brain tumors, MIR10B is implicated in additional cancer types. In oral cancer, its elevated expression in both tumor tissues and plasma is linked to enhanced cell migration and invasion.
