| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 1203 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent research has identified miR-1203 as a critical regulator of metastasis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this context, elevated miR-1203 levels directly bind to and suppress SOCS3 expression, thereby promoting HCC cell invasion and correlating with increased metastatic potential and poor patient prognosis. These findings indicate that miR-1203 may serve both as a prognostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic target for preventing HCC metastasis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional studies have demonstrated that miR-1203 exerts a protective role in human endometrial cells subjected to oxygen–glucose deprivation followed by re-oxygenation, an in vitro mimic of ischemia-reperfusion injury. Here, miR-1203 directly targets and silences cyclophilin D (CypD), thereby mitigating mitochondrial dysfunction, reducing programmed necrosis, and lessening overall cytotoxicity induced by stress. The cytoprotective effects are specifically linked to its regulation of CypD, as evidenced by experiments where these effects are lost upon CypD deletion or its forced re-expression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn a broader context of non-coding RNA research in cancer metastasis, another study focused on the role of LINC00632 in non-small cell lung cancer.
