MIR1205 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 1205
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAccumulating evidence indicates that miR‑1205 is a multifunctional microRNA whose regulatory roles in cancer are mediated in part through its interactions with circular RNAs. In glioma and papillary thyroid cancer, for instance, specific circRNAs (such as circ_0034642, hsa_circ_0034642, hsa_circ_0039411, and circRASSF2) act as sponges for miR‑1205. This sequestration leads to de‐repression of key oncogenic targets—BATF3 in glioma, MTA1 and ABCA9 in papillary thyroid cancer, and HOXA1 in breast cancer—thereby promoting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and resistance to apoptosis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn other tumor contexts, miR‑1205 exhibits context‑dependent functions. In castration‑resistant prostate cancer, increased copy number and expression of miR‑1205 promote cell proliferation and cell cycle progression by directly targeting EGLN3. Moreover, in lung adenocarcinoma, a novel miR‑1205 was identified, suggesting its potential involvement in tumorigenesis. In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), miR‑1205 overexpression suppresses cell proliferation via direct interaction with CSNK2B, thereby interfering with the downstream CDK4/pRb pathway."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "5", "end_ref": "7"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nDistinct roles have also been reported in cancers of the head and breast. In laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, miR‑1205 is significantly downregulated, and its enforced expression inhibits migration, growth, and invasion—effects attributable to its targeting of the transcription factor E2F1, which itself can suppress miR‑1205 expression through a feedback loop. Conversely, in breast cancer, miR‑1205 is upregulated in metastatic tumors and promotes invasiveness and metastasis by directly targeting CDK3, ultimately modulating Snail degradation and facilitating epithelial‑to‑mesenchymal transition. These findings underscore the context‑dependent and multifaceted roles of miR‑1205 across different tumor types."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "8"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Mengli Yang, Gang Li, Lujia Fan, et al.
