MIR1233-1 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 1233-1
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent studies have revealed that MIR1233-1 (miR-1233-3p) plays an oncogenic role in cancer progression by regulating genes involved in cell migration, invasion, and proliferation. In breast cancer, circEHMT1 functions as a tumor suppressor by binding to MIR1233-1, thereby dampening its activity. This sequestration interrupts the MIR1233-1-mediated modulation of key effectors such as the transcription factor KLF4 and matrix metalloprotease 2 (MMP2), leading to reduced migratory and invasive capabilities of cancer cells."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nSimilarly, in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), the tumor suppressive circRNA, circ_RPL23A, exerts its effects by sponging MIR1233-1. Normally, MIR1233-1 targets and suppresses the expression of acetyl-coenzyme A acetyltransferase 2 (ACAT2), but when circ_RPL23A binds MIR1233-1, ACAT2 expression is restored. This relief of suppression curtails cell cycle progression, proliferation, and metastatic behaviors in ccRCC cells, highlighting the critical role of MIR1233-1 in promoting tumor progression when unsequestered."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Mengqi Lu, Yushen Wu, Beilei Zeng, et al.
