MIR1234 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 1234
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent investigations indicate that miR‑1234 plays a regulatory role in lymphoma by modulating key signaling pathways. In diffuse large B‑cell lymphoma (DLBCL) of the activated B‑cell type, miR‑1234 was found to be significantly up‑regulated in patient tissues from regions with distinct environmental exposures. Its expression level was inversely correlated with STAT3 protein levels, and functional studies demonstrated that transfection of miR‑1234 resulted in the down‑regulation of STAT3. This suggests that miR‑1234 may act to temper STAT3‑mediated pro‑survival and inflammatory signaling pathways potentially contributing to lymphoma tumorigenesis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn gastric cancer, miR‑1234 is similarly implicated in tumorigenesis via its involvement in a regulatory axis with the circular RNA hsa_circ_0006470 and the tumor suppressor TP53I11. Overexpression of hsa_circ_0006470 inhibited cell viability, proliferation, and migration by effectively sponging miR‑1234, which in turn prohibited miR‑1234 from repressing TP53I11 expression. This interplay reveals that the miR‑1234/TP53I11 axis is a critical mediator in the progression of gastric cancer, providing potential avenues for therapeutic intervention."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Therese Högfeldt, Per Johnsson, Dan Grandér, et al.
