| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 1252 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In this context, circABCB10 acts as an oncogenic sponge that sequesters miR‑1252, thereby reducing its availability to target the transcription factor FOXR2. Elevated levels of circABCB10 lead to reduced miR‑1252–mediated FOXR2 suppression, promoting cell proliferation and migration as well as tumor growth in vivo."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "In lung adenocarcinoma, a similar ceRNA network has been identified where the long noncoding RNA LINC00520 is upregulated and inversely correlated with miR‑1252‑5p. LINC00520 competitively binds miR‑1252‑5p, thereby lowering its effective concentration and consequently de‐repressing its target, FOXR2. This molecular interplay contributes to enhanced cellular proliferation, migration, and invasion, highlighting the tumor‐suppressive potential of miR‑1252‑5p when not inhibited by its ceRNA."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "In pancreatic cancer, miR‑1252‑5p is significantly downregulated, and its reduced expression is associated with adverse clinical outcomes. Functional studies demonstrate that miR‑1252‑5p directly targets the 3′‑untranslated region of NEDD9, thereby inhibiting the SRC/STAT3 signaling cascade involved in the proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial–mesenchymal transition of pancreatic cancer cells. Moreover, miR‑1252‑5p is subject to negative regulation by the transcription factor Myb, underlining its role as a tumor suppressor and its potential as a therapeutic target."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Xufeng Tian, Lin Zhang, Yan Jiao, et al.
