| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 1255b-2 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In cancer models, for example, ATP released from activated platelets triggers endothelial P2Y2 signals that open the barrier for tumor cell extravasation, while autocrine purinergic feedback loops in macrophages and neutrophils promote chemotactic migration and inflammatory responses. Similarly, activation of P2Y2 receptors in neural and microglial cells modulates neuronal differentiation and nociceptive signaling. These findings imply that MIR1255B2 could modulate the intensity and duration of such responses by targeting components of purinergic cascades, thereby influencing metastasis, immune cell recruitment, and neural development."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "7"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nA second body of work has explored purinergic receptor roles in vascular tone, renal ion transport, and tissue repair—all processes that may also be subject to regulation by MIR1255B2. Mechanical stimulation of endothelial cells, for instance, is transduced via P2Y2 and associated G‐protein signals to promote nitric oxide–independent vasodilation and fluid shear–induced vascular remodeling, while purinergic mechanisms in the kidney modulate epithelial sodium channels and water reabsorption. In addition, fibroblast migration and wound‐healing responses are facilitated by P2Y2 activation, contributing to extracellular matrix remodeling and inflammatory cytokine release. Collectively, these studies support the idea that MIR1255B2 might finely adjust critical effectors of vascular, renal, and repair processes by targeting transcripts within the purinergic pathway."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "8", "end_ref": "15"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditional reports reveal purinergic receptor signaling to be central in orchestrating cardiac protection, bone cell differentiation, and even processes in visceral organs such as the liver and bladder. The protective effects of P2Y2 receptor agonism during myocardial infarction, the regulation of osteogenesis in the face of inflammatory cytokines, and modulation of sensory neuron excitability highlight the versatility of these pathways.
