| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 1260b |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nmiR‑1260b is emerging as an important oncomiR whose aberrant upregulation is observed in several malignancies. For instance, elevated miR‑1260b levels in colorectal cancer correlate with lymph node metastasis and venous invasion, indicating a poorer prognosis, while in hepatocellular carcinoma, its dysregulation is implicated in enhanced cell migration and invasion. In non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and breast cancer, high miR‑1260b expression is associated with aggressive tumor characteristics such as increased tumor size, advanced stage, and reduced overall survival."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMechanistic investigations reveal that miR‑1260b exerts its oncogenic functions through diverse regulatory pathways. In lung adenocarcinoma, exosomal miR‑1260b promotes cell invasion partly by inhibiting secreted antagonists such as sFRP1 and Smad4, while in NSCLC it enhances cell proliferation and tumor growth by directly targeting SOCS6, thereby activating KIT signaling under the regulation of transcription factor YY1. Under hypoxic conditions in vascular smooth muscle cells, miR‑1260b is robustly induced and directly targets growth differentiation factor 11 (GDF11), leading to attenuation of TGF‑β/Smad‑dependent signaling and increased cellular proliferation. Moreover, in nucleus pulposus cells, miR‑1260b targets TCF7L2 and mitigates lipopolysaccharide‑induced degenerative changes, and in hepatocellular carcinoma its modulation of RGS22 contributes to cell migration and invasion. Additional studies in NSCLC have identified that exosomal miR‑1260b targets HIPK2 in endothelial cells, promoting angiogenesis, enhancing cellular mobility, and contributing to drug resistance."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}, {"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "6", "end_ref": "9"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nCollectively, these findings establish miR‑1260b as a multifunctional regulator of tumorigenesis and cellular homeostasis. By modulating key signaling pathways and targeting multiple tumor suppressor genes, miR‑1260b not only drives processes such as cell proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis in cancer but also influences phenotypic alterations in non‑malignant cells under stress conditions. Its strong association with aggressive disease features and its presence in exosomes underscore its promise as both a prognostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic target across a spectrum of cancers and degenerative disorders."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "3"}, {"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "6", "end_ref": "9"}, {"type": "fg_f", "ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Deng-Rui Liu, Quan-Lin Guan, Ming-Tai Gao, et al.
