| Name | microRNA 1263 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

Overexpression studies indicate that miR‐1263 can accelerate and enhance endoderm differentiation by destabilizing pluripotency. One key mechanism for this effect involves the targeting and subsequent downregulation of KLF4—a transcription factor that normally sustains the pluripotent state. The downregulation of KLF4 by miR‐1263 leads to a shift in cell fate decisions, promoting the specification of endoderm lineages."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the context of infectious diseases, altered levels of circulating miR‐1263 have been observed during dengue virus infection. Studies comparing dengue‐infected pediatric patients to those with other acute febrile illnesses found that miR‐1263 levels were significantly reduced during both the febrile and convalescent phases of infection. Although these alterations do not distinguish between different severities of dengue, they support a potential role for miR‐1263 as an early and late biomarker of dengue virus infection."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurthermore, miR‐1263 contained within extracellular vesicles has been implicated in intercellular communication within the liver tumor microenvironment. Specifically, miR‐1263 transferred from hepatic stellate cells to liver cancer cells has been shown to modulate tumor cell behavior by reducing migration and invasion. This microRNA also influences the expression of factors involved in extracellular matrix remodeling and angiogenesis, ultimately affecting multicellular spheroid growth.
