MIR1267 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 1267
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

In breast cancer, for instance, the aberrant upregulation of Piwil2—a protein normally confined to germ cell self‐renewal—has been implicated in disease progression. This study hypothesized that a subset of microRNAs predicted to target Piwil2, including MIR1267, would be concomitantly downregulated, thereby contributing to the unchecked expression of this oncogenic protein."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the context of nonsmall cell lung cancer, recent research has centered on the long noncoding RNA LINC01554 and its contributions to the malignant phenotype. Although the study primarily focused on LINC01554, the regulatory networks in which it participates are known to involve microRNAs such as MIR1267. These interactions suggest that LINC01554 may modulate MIR1267 activity, further impacting critical pathways that regulate cell proliferation and tumor growth."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nOverall, MIR1267 emerges as a pivotal molecule within oncogenic regulatory networks. In breast cancer, its predicted function in targeting and suppressing Piwil2 supports its candidacy as a tumor-suppressive microRNA, while in lung cancer, its interplay with LINC01554 underscores its broader potential to influence key cellular processes.
