MIR1268A Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 1268a
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

Carriers of the T allele exhibit a markedly increased risk of HCC, which is accompanied by larger tumor size, higher portal vein involvement, dedifferentiation, and elevated levels of aflatoxin B1 adducts. This variant is also linked to an increased frequency of TP53 mutations and appears to modulate the expression of ADAMTS4 mRNA, suggesting that miR‐1268a plays an important role in tumor aggressiveness and patient outcome."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the context of heart failure, miR‐1268a is up‐regulated in myocardial AC16 cells treated with Angiotensin II, and it contributes to the pathological process by targeting CD36. The elevated levels of miR‐1268a mediate a decrease in fatty acid uptake, ATP production, and an increase in oxidative stress and HF markers (BNP and ST2), underscoring its role in metabolic regulation under stress conditions. Conversely, inhibition of miR‐1268a mitigates these deleterious effects, indicating that miR‐1268a is a critical regulator of cardiomyocyte function during heart failure."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Xi-Dai Long, Xiao-Ying Huang, Jin-Guang Yao, et al.
