| Name | microRNA 1270 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMicroRNA‐1270 (miR‑1270) has emerged as a multifunctional regulator in diverse biological contexts. In bladder cancer, for example, miR‑1270 is sponged by the circular RNA Cdr1as, thereby relieving its inhibition on apoptotic protease‑activating factor 1 (APAF1) and enhancing cisplatin‑induced chemosensitivity. Similarly, in papillary thyroid cancer its expression is under evaluation for potential mechanistic roles, and in kidney cells miR‑1270 binds in an allele‑specific manner within the 3′‑UTR of TAP2 to repress its expression and modulate antigen processing."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn several malignancies miR‑1270 exhibits oncogenic features. In osteosarcoma, two independent studies report its aberrant upregulation in tumor tissues and cell lines, where higher miR‑1270 levels are associated with aggressive proliferation, migration, and poor patient outcomes, in part through targeting cingulin. In gastric cancer, elevated miR‑1270 correlates with advanced disease and reduced survival; here, the long noncoding RNA ASMTL‑AS1 appears to exert tumor‑suppressive effects by regulating miR‑1270. In esophageal cancer, the lncRNA SNHG8 sponges miR‑1270 to upregulate BACH1, thereby promoting tumor growth. Finally, in pancreatic cancer a circRNA (circ_0128846) sequesters miR‑1270 resulting in derepression of the glucocorticoid receptor NR3C1; silencing the circRNA enhances miR‑1270 action and dampens tumor progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "4", "end_ref": "8"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn contrast, miR‑1270 may also act as a tumor suppressor in other settings. In lung adenocarcinoma, two studies suggest divergent roles: one finds that up‑regulated lncRNA GLIDR sponges miR‑1270 leading to increased expression of its target TCF12, while another demonstrates that restoration of miR‑1270 suppresses RNA polymerase I transcription by downregulating core transcriptional components, thereby inhibiting proliferation, migration, and enhancing apoptosis. Beyond cancer, in preeclampsia reduced miR‑1270 in fetal endothelial colony‑forming cells is associated with ATM overexpression and subsequent endothelial dysfunction, highlighting its role in vascular biology."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "9", "end_ref": "11"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Bridgett Knox, Yong Wang, Lora J Rogers, et al.
