MIR1277 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 1277
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent studies have revealed that miR‐1277‐5p functions as an important regulatory hub in diverse pathological conditions by modulating key target genes through competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks. In osteoarthritis, miR‐1277‐5p normally suppresses the expression of matrix metalloproteinase‐13 (MMP13) and ADAMTS5, two proteins implicated in extracellular matrix degradation; however, its activity is attenuated by the long noncoding RNA XIST, which acts as a ceRNA, thereby promoting ECM breakdown. Similarly, in a Parkinson’s disease model, miR‐1277‐5p is sequestered by the lncRNA NEAT1, resulting in upregulation of ARHGAP26 and subsequent enhancement of apoptosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress in dopaminergic cells."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn addition to its role in neurodegeneration and joint pathology, miR‐1277‐5p has been implicated in cardiovascular pathology and malignancy. In carotid atherosclerosis, the lncRNA LINC01123 acts as a sponge for miR‐1277‐5p, thereby diminishing its inhibitory effect on KLF5, which in turn augments vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and migration and may promote fibrotic plaque formation. Furthermore, in glioma, miR‐1277‐5p is targeted by LINC01087; under normal conditions miR‐1277‐5p suppresses the expression of ACER3, an enzyme associated with tumor progression, and downregulation of miR‐1277‐5p through aberrant lncRNA sponging contributes to a more aggressive glioma phenotype."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Tao Wang, Yize Liu, Yong Wang, et al.
