| Name | microRNA 1279 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nThe microRNA MIR1279 exhibits a conserved regulatory function by binding to the coding sequences of specific mRNAs. Notably, it targets the transcripts of PTPN12, MSH6, and ZEB1, where its binding sites encode the oligopeptides TKEQYE, EGSSDE, and GEKPYE, respectively. This unusual targeting within the CDS and the presence of evolutionarily conserved binding sites among orthologs and numerous paralogs—such as the multiple sites in zinc finger gene family members—suggest a role for MIR1279 in fine‐tuning protein synthesis and maintaining peptide sequence integrity across species."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \n \nIn addition, genetic variability in and around the MIR1279 gene appears to modulate disease risk. A polymorphism (rs1463335) located upstream of MIR1279 was found to influence the expression of TRAF3IP2, linking MIR1279 to the susceptibility of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) complications, particularly pericarditis. The association of this MIR1279 variant with pericarditis, especially when considered in combination with risk alleles from other genes such as STAT4, PTPN2, and TRAF3IP2, underscores its potential utility in risk profiling and the management of SLE patients."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Anatoliy T Ivashchenko, Assel S Issabekova, Olga A Berillo "}, {"type": "b", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "miR-1279, miR-548j, miR-548m, and miR-548d-5p binding sites in CDSs of paralogous and orthologous PTPN12, MSH6, and ZEB1 Genes."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " "}, {"type": "i", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Biomed Res Int (2013)"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " DOI: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10.1155/2013/902467"}], "href": "https://doi.org/10.1155/2013/902467"}, {"type": "t", "text": " PMID: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "23957009"}], "href": "https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23957009"}]}, {"type": "r", "ref": 2, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "C Ciccacci, C Perricone, C Politi, et al.
