| Name | microRNA 1286 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In human marrow mesenchymal stem cells, miR‐1286 inhibits osteogenic differentiation by targeting FZD4 expression, thereby promoting osteoporotic progression. This finding suggests that miR‐1286 functions as a negative regulator of bone formation, potentially contributing to bone density loss when overexpressed or dysregulated."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the context of gastric cancer, miR‐1286 is sequestered by specific circular RNAs. For instance, circCOL1A2 acts as a competing endogenous RNA that sponges miR‐1286, relieving its suppression on USP10. The de‐repressed USP10 then decreases the ubiquitination level of RFC2, which in turn enhances cell migration and invasion. This mechanism highlights a tumor‐promoting role for the circCOL1A2/miR‐1286/USP10 regulatory axis by functionally impairing the inhibitory role of miR‐1286 on oncogenic pathways."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nSimilarly, in osteosarcoma, long non‐coding RNAs modulate tumor progression via the sponging of miR‐1286. HOXA‐AS3, for example, acts as a competing endogenous RNA that directly targets and reduces miR‐1286 availability, leading to the upregulation of TEAD1 expression. The consequent overexpression of TEAD1 correlates with enhanced proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial–mesenchymal transition in osteosarcoma cells, underscoring the potent oncogenic impact of impaired miR‐1286 function in this malignancy."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "J-G Zhou, Y Hua, S-W Liu, et al.
