MIR1302-8 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 1302-8
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

In the first study (PMID:"}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ", the chaperone protein PDCL3 is shown to be crucial for controlling the expression and activation of VEGFR-2 during pathological angiogenesis. PDCL3 helps prevent misfolding and aggregation of VEGFR-2 and is itself regulated by hypoxia and posttranslational modifications. Although MIR1302-8 is not mentioned, one might hypothesize that if this microRNA is functionally linked within this regulatory network, it could act either to fine-tune PDCL3 levels or to modulate downstream VEGFR-2 signaling during angiogenic responses.\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the second study (PMID:"}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ", the focus is on PhLP2A, another chaperone-related protein that interacts directly with Hsp90 to stabilize proteins under stress conditions. PhLP2A’s role in facilitating protein quality control—by preventing denaturation and aggregation—provides an additional model of how cells maintain proteostasis under heat shock or chemical perturbation. Again, while MIR1302-8 is not directly investigated, its inclusion in gene expression or regulatory screens might indicate that it participates in these chaperone networks, potentially regulating genes like PDCL3 or PhLP2A or their associated pathways involved in angiogenesis and stress responses.\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Srimathi Srinivasan, Vipul Chitalia, Rosana D Meyer, et al.
