| Name | microRNA 1321 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In one study, upregulated lncRNA NEAT1 was shown to sponge miR‑1321, thereby alleviating its inhibitory effect on tight junction protein 3 (TJP3). The resultant overexpression of TJP3 was associated with enhanced cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and epithelial‑mesenchymal transition (EMT) in ovarian cancer cells, indicating that the sequestration of miR‑1321 by NEAT1 contributes to cancer metastasis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn a different study focusing on non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), miR‑1321 was identified as a tumor suppressor that directly targets cell division cycle 20 (CDC20). Elevated CDC20 levels, which correlated with poor prognoses in NSCLC patients, were effectively reduced by miR‑1321, along with miR‑7515, leading to decreased proliferation, migration, and invasion, and increased apoptosis of NSCLC cells. These findings underscore the anti‑tumor effects of miR‑1321 in lung cancer by modulating CDC20 expression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nCollectively, the studies highlight the context‑dependent functions of miR‑1321 in cancer. In ovarian cancer, miR‑1321 acts as a negative regulator of TJP3, with its downregulation via NEAT1 sponging facilitating metastasis, whereas in NSCLC, miR‑1321 suppresses tumor progression by targeting CDC20. These insights not only delineate the multifaceted roles of miR‑1321 in different tumor types but also suggest its potential as a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target in oncology."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Min Luo, Lei Zhang, Hongying Yang, et al.
