MIR2110 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 2110
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

In neuroblastoma cell lines, overexpression of miR‑2110 promotes neurite outgrowth and differentiation while reducing cell survival. Mechanistic investigations identified Tsukushi (TSKU) as a key target of miR‑2110; its downregulation by miR‑2110 mimic treatment induces differentiation and diminishes tumor cell viability. Moreover, clinical observations show that low levels of tumor miR‑2110 correlate with high TSKU mRNA expression and adverse patient survival, underscoring the microRNA’s crucial role in tumor suppression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "Disruptions in miR‑2110 function have also been implicated in breast cancer progression through its involvement in competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks. In breast cancer cells, the long non‑coding RNA ARAP1‑AS1 sequesters miR‑2110, leading to increased expression of HDAC2, a histone deacetylase that suppresses the tumor suppressor PLIN1 via promoter deacetylation. As a result, ARAP1‑AS1 indirectly promotes malignant phenotypes characterized by increased proliferation, reduced apoptosis, and enhanced migration. Additionally, ongoing investigations in lung adenocarcinoma aim to define miR‑2110’s impact on cell proliferation, apoptosis, and metastasis, suggesting that modulation of miR‑2110 levels may provide a therapeutic avenue across different cancer types."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Zhenze Zhao, Veronica Partridge, Michaela Sousares, et al.
