| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 3064 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In hepatocellular carcinoma, miR‑3064‑5p is downregulated, and its loss is associated with enhanced angiogenesis through the inhibition of proangiogenic factors like VEGFA and angiogenin alongside the activation of antiangiogenic molecules; mechanistically, it suppresses the FOXA1/CD24/Src pathway, an effect that is counteracted by the oncogenic lncRNA MALAT1 acting as a sponge."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " In ovarian cancer, miR‑3064‑5p (together with miR‑532) is also downregulated and exerts its tumor‐suppressive role by directly targeting the 3′‑UTR of hTERT, leading to the inhibition of proliferation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and invasive capabilities."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the context of pancreatic cancer, although miR‑3064‑5p has been recognized as an important tumor suppressor in ovarian cancer, its specific roles, downstream targets, and upstream regulators in pancreatic malignancy remain to be fully elucidated."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " Moreover, in colorectal cancer, miR‑3064‑5p is suppressed by the upregulation of the long non‑coding RNA LINC00958; release of miR‑3064‑5p leads to the downregulation of LEMD1 and subsequent inactivation of PI3K/AKT signaling, thereby inhibiting tumor progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nSimilarly, in bladder cancer, miR‑3064‑5p is sequestered by the lncRNA LINC00858, which in turn relieves its suppression of the oncogene CTGF.
