| Name | microRNA 3133 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nmiR‐3133 has recently been identified as a tumor suppressor in colon cancer, with evidence indicating that its expression is significantly downregulated in tumor tissues relative to normal colon epithelium. Reduced miR‐3133 levels are strongly associated with advanced TNM stage and poorer patient survival, establishing it as an independent prognostic biomarker. Functional studies reveal that restoring miR‐3133 expression in colon cancer cell models markedly inhibits cellular proliferation, migration, and invasion, whereas its knockdown exacerbates these oncogenic behaviors. Mechanistically, miR‐3133 exerts its tumor‐suppressive function by directly targeting RUFY3, leading to decreased RUFY3 expression and activity—a pathway that appears crucial for modulating the aggressive phenotype of colon cancer cells. These findings position miR‐3133 as a promising therapeutic target for modulating colon cancer progression and improving clinical outcomes."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Hongjian Gao, Chunxia Zhang "}, {"type": "b", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "miR-3133 is an unfavorable prognosis factor and tumor suppressor in colon cancer."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " "}, {"type": "i", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Funct Integr Genomics (2023)"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " DOI: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10.1007/s10142-023-01059-3"}], "href": "https://doi.org/10.1007/s10142-023-01059-3"}, {"type": "t", "text": " PMID: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "37079151"}], "href": "https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37079151"}]}]}]}
