MIR3142 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 3142
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

In one investigation, researchers examined the serum expression of miR‐3142 in cohorts of cervical cancer patients versus healthy controls to assess its potential as a non‐invasive diagnostic marker. Their findings suggest that altered levels of miR‐3142 may reflect the presence of malignant processes, thereby offering a novel approach to early detection."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "In addition to its diagnostic utility, the study explored the prognostic implications of miR‐3142 expression. The observed serum expression patterns indicate that miR‐3142 could also serve as a predictor of clinical outcomes in cervical cancer patients, potentially informing treatment decisions and prognosis evaluations. As such, miR‐3142 not only holds promise for early cancer detection but may also provide valuable insights into tumor progression and patient survival."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Qinghua Luo, Hao Wang, Jing Li "}, {"type": "b", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Serum miR-3142 could be Used as a Potential Biomarker to Screen Cervical Cancer Patients from Healthy Controls."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " "}, {"type": "i", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Clin Lab (2019)"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " DOI: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10.7754/Clin.Lab.2018.180925"}], "href": "https://doi.org/10.7754/Clin.Lab.2018.180925"}, {"type": "t", "text": " PMID: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "30969093"}], "href": "https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30969093"}]}]}]}
