MIR3155B Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 3155b
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nCartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) is a multifunctional extracellular matrix molecule that plays a critical role in musculoskeletal development and homeostasis. In cartilage, tendon and growth plate tissues, COMP is expressed as a marker of differentiated chondrocytes and tendon cells, where it participates in cell–matrix interactions that govern cellular proliferation, differentiation and survival. In tendon cell lines derived from transgenic mice, COMP is co‐expressed with other tendon phenotype–related markers and may contribute to maintaining the mesenchymal stem cell–like properties essential for tendon formation and repair."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "10"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn addition to its well‐established role in skeletal tissues, COMP functions as an important organizer of the extracellular matrix in soft tissues. It mediates cell attachment in ligaments via interactions with integrins (for example, αVβ3 and CD47) and influences collagen fibril assembly and secretion. Moreover, increased COMP expression has been linked to improved responses to mechanical loading and to the orchestration of bone regenerative processes when combined with pro‐osteogenic factors such as BMP2. Aberrant COMP expression or retention—whether because of mutations that trigger intracellular stress or altered degradation by proteases—can disrupt matrix architecture and contribute to fibrotic and myopathic changes."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "11", "end_ref": "17"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nCOMP also exerts key regulatory functions in the vascular system and other organs. It participates in maintaining vascular homeostasis by directly inhibiting thrombin activity, modulating platelet aggregation and limiting vascular smooth muscle cell calcification. Reduced COMP expression has been associated with vascular aging, increased oxidative stress and a shift of vascular smooth muscle cell metabolism and phenotype, while interaction of COMP with mitochondrial proteins (such as prohibitin 2) helps sustain mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. Furthermore, COMP is involved in diverse regulatory circuits that impact atherosclerotic lesion morphology, pericyte recruitment in cranial bone regeneration, and even the modulation of fibrotic signaling via TGF‑β in atrial and pancreatic tissues. Notably, recent studies have also highlighted a role for COMP in pulmonary vascular pathology, where its expression is negatively regulated by nuclear circular RNA mechanisms, thereby influencing hypoxia‐induced ferroptosis in pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "18", "end_ref": "30"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Liz Svensson, Attila Aszódi, Dick Heinegård, et al.
