MIR3158-2 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 3158-2
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nA review of the provided abstracts reveals a broad investigation into the roles of cytokine‐mediated signal transduction—most notably via STAT1—and its interplay with other transcription factors (for example, T‐bet, STAT3, IRF-1, and members of the SOCS family) in regulating immune responses, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and tissue homeostasis in settings as diverse as T helper cell polarization, macrophage activation, infectious disease, autoimmunity, and tumorigenesis. In these studies, interferon‐γ, IL-27, IL-6, and related cytokines initiate signaling cascades that converge on STAT1; its activation (via tyrosine and serine phosphorylation) is shown to be critical for transcriptional regulation of genes that drive Th1 cell development, induce chemokine and adhesion molecule expression, and coordinate antimicrobial and antiangiogenic responses. Collectively, the work underscores a finely tuned balance between pro- and anti-inflammatory signals orchestrated by STAT1-centered networks, which in turn are modulated by auxiliary factors that either enhance or restrain the overall immune output."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "44"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nDespite these extensive insights into STAT1-related pathways and the intricate regulation of cytokine responses, none of the abstracts include any direct reference to or data on the microRNA MIR3158-2.
