MIR3190 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 3190
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

In an Angiotensin II (AngII)–infused transgenic mouse model, reduced levels of miR-1954 were associated with enhanced cardiac remodeling and fibrosis, while its overexpression led to significant decreases in cardiac hypertrophy, fibrotic and inflammatory gene expression, and even lowered blood pressure. Importantly, miR-1954 exerts its beneficial effects by targeting THBS1 (thrombospondin 1), a key mediator of extracellular matrix disruption, and by restoring the expression of SERCA2, a calcium-regulated gene critical for proper myocardial function. This study highlights the therapeutic potential of boosting miR-1954 levels as a novel strategy to combat cardiac fibrosis and related dysfunctions."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Valorie Chiasson, Ana Paula Cremasco Takano, Rakeshwar S Guleria, et al.
