MIR323B Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 323b
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent findings have indicated that miR‑323b, particularly the hsa‑miR‑323b‑5p isoform, may serve as an effective circulating biomarker. In type 2 diabetic patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI), this miRNA is markedly up‑regulated, with serum levels demonstrating promising diagnostic accuracy in distinguishing CLI from non‑CLI conditions in these patients. Its potential utility as a non‑invasive biomarker underlines its clinical relevance in assessing vascular complications associated with diabetes."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nBeyond its diagnostic potential in vascular disease, genetic variants within the precursor of miR‑323b have been implicated in modulating host–virus interactions and cancer risk. A prevalent single nucleotide polymorphism (rs56103835C>T) in the pre‑miRNA region has been associated with enhanced hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication, suggesting that the wild‑type miR‑323b can suppress viral DNA levels, whereas its variant may predispose individuals to persistent infection. Similarly, investigations in breast cancer populations are examining this same variant for its association with tumor development, supporting a potential tumor suppressor role for miR‑323b in this context."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn contrast to its tumor suppressive indications in certain contexts, miR‑323‑3p appears to function as an oncogene in non‑small‑cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Elevated levels of miR‑323‑3p in lung cancer cell lines contribute to enhanced cell proliferation by directly targeting and suppressing TMEFF2 expression. This down‑regulation of TMEFF2 in turn hinders the activation of key signaling cascades, including the AKT and ERK pathways, thereby promoting tumorigenesis and cellular progression in NSCLC."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Biao Cheng, Ju-Yi Li, Xiao-Chao Li, et al.
