MIR329-2 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 329-2
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

In gastric cancer, its downregulation releases inhibition of targets such as TIAM1, thereby promoting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and tumor formation, while enforced expression reverses these effects. In hepatocellular carcinoma, reduced miR-329 correlates with enhanced cell invasion via deregulation of BRD4, whereas in pancreatic cancer, miR-329 overexpression targets GRB2 to inactivate the GRB2/pERK pathway, leading to decreased proliferation and increased apoptosis. In non-small cell lung cancer, restoration of miR-329 impairs cell growth, migration, and invasion by downregulating oncogenic MET."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "4", "end_ref": "6"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurther complexity in miR-329 regulation is evident from studies indicating its prognostic significance and participation in broader regulatory networks. In bladder cancer, the oncogenic lncRNA ZFAS1 acts as a sponge for miR-329, thereby mitigating its tumor suppressor function, while in melanoma, miR-329 downregulates HMGB2 and modulates the β-catenin pathway to arrest the cell cycle and promote apoptosis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "7", "end_ref": "9"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Zheng Li, Xin Yu, Yang Wang, et al.
