| Name | microRNA 3610 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

Research has shown that, among hundreds of miRNAs analyzed in TBI patients, specific miRNAs such as miR‑126‑3p, miR‑3610, and miR‑3907 display consistent alterations in serum levels from the acute phase (Days 1, 7, and 28) to as long as 5 years post‑injury. These findings suggest that miR‑3610, in particular, may have a role in the pathogenesis of TBI‑induced hypopituitarism by serving as an indicator of the evolving neuroendocrine dysfunction following trauma."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nThe longitudinal study demonstrated that miR‑3610 is reliably detected in the serum of patients who develop hypopituitarism after TBI. Its altered expression pattern over multiple time points hints at an involvement in the processes that underlie the neuroendocrine impairments seen in these patients. Such dynamic regulation underscores the potential of miR‑3610 not only as a diagnostic marker for early identification of pituitary dysregulation but also as a candidate for future therapeutic targeting aimed at mitigating TBI‑associated endocrine disorders."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nOverall, the consistent changes in miR‑3610 levels across both the acute phase and several years post‑injury emphasize its importance in the molecular signature of TBI‑induced hypopituitarism.
