MIR3650 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 3650
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

For example, one study employed a QM/MM model to elucidate structure–function relationships underlying olfactory signal transduction in a mouse olfactory receptor (MOR244-3), demonstrating how detailed computational models can advance our understanding of receptor–ligand interactions (a study that did not involve MIR3650)."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nIn hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), MIR3650 has emerged as an important tumor‐suppressive microRNA. Investigators found that its expression was frequently decreased in HCC tissues, with lower levels correlating significantly with tumor metastasis and poorer patient survival. Functional experiments revealed that forced expression of MIR3650 inhibited cell migration and the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT), a key process in cancer progression, and mechanistic studies identified neurofascin (NFASC) as a direct target of MIR3650. Consequently, MIR3650 appears to repress HCC progression by downregulating NFASC expression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nAlthough MIR3650’s tumor‐suppressive role is evident in HCC, its function in other cancers remains to be fully elucidated. In gastric cancer, where microRNAs also control diverse regulatory networks, the specific role and mechanistic impact of MIR3650 are not yet well understood. Clarifying its function in this context could further reveal the broader significance of MIR3650 in cancer biology and potentially expand its utility as a prognostic marker or therapeutic target."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Sivakumar Sekharan, Mehmed Z Ertem, Hanyi Zhuang, et al.
