MIR3679 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 3679
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent investigations have revealed that miR-3679, particularly its 5p variant, may serve as a noninvasive biomarker in oncology. In pancreatic cancer, for example, salivary levels of miR-3679-5p were found to be significantly downregulated in patients with resectable disease compared to both healthy individuals and patients with benign pancreatic tumors. This downregulation offers promise as a screening tool for early detection and improved patient stratification."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\nIn another context, miR-3679-5p plays a pivotal role during inflammatory responses in endothelial cells. It is rapidly induced by tumor necrosis factor–α (TNF-α) and facilitates the recruitment of key histone demethylases, KDM7A and UTX, to nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) regulatory elements. This recruitment leads to the removal of repressive histone marks (H3K9me2 and H3K27me3), thus enabling the transcriptional activation of NF-κB–dependent inflammatory genes. Such epigenetic modulation highlights the significance of miR-3679-5p in controlling vascular inflammation."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\nEmerging research also suggests that miR-3679 may be implicated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Current studies are focused on elucidating its relationship with HCC cell lines and identifying its downstream target genes, which could further clarify its role in cancer biology and potentially unveil novel therapeutic targets."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Zijun Xie, Xiaoyu Yin, Bo Gong, et al.
