MIR378B Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 378b
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent studies indicate that MIR378B (commonly reported as miR‐378 or miR‐378b) plays multifaceted roles in cancer biology. In glioma, decreased expression of miR‐378 has been associated with aggressive tumor behavior and poorer overall survival, while its overexpression inhibited cell migration and invasion, suggesting that it acts as a tumor suppressor. Similarly, in non‐small‐cell lung cancer, altered levels of serum exosomal miR‐378 have been correlated with disease status and hold promise as early detection and prognostic biomarkers."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nBeyond its oncologic significance, MIR378B is implicated in the regulation of angiogenesis and tissue repair. In patients experiencing myocardial infarction, differential regulation of angio‐miRs – a group that includes miR‐378 – in mobilized bone marrow‐derived CD34⁺ progenitor cells suggests an important role in promoting neovascularization necessary for effective cardiac repair. Moreover, related miRNA variants, such as miR‐1378b studied in UVB‐exposed human dermal fibroblasts, underscore how microRNA‐mediated regulation of targets like SIRT6 can influence extracellular matrix remodeling and anti‐aging processes."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn addition, emerging evidence from colorectal cancer research highlights a regulatory network in which MIR378B is a key mediator. Here, the long non‐coding RNA CDKN2B‑AS1 functions as a molecular sponge for miR‐378b, relieving suppression of its downstream target CAPRIN2 and consequently activating β‐catenin signaling. This interaction promotes tumor cell proliferation and migration, proposing the MIR378B/CAPRIN2/β‐catenin axis as a potential target for prognostic assessment and therapeutic intervention."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Bing Li, Yilin Wang, Shiting Li, et al.
