MIR378C Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 378c
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMIR378C has emerged as a pivotal regulator involved in both oncologic and vascular contexts. In glioma, a related form of MIR378C is expressed at lower levels than in non‐neoplastic brain tissues, with its downregulation correlating with poorer overall survival and enhanced tumor cell migration and invasion, implicating a tumor‐suppressive function ([1]). In addition, the broad significance of miRNAs in vascular repair is evidenced by studies of mobilized bone marrow–derived CD34⁺ progenitor cells from myocardial infarction patients, in which differential regulation of angio‐miRs highlights their role in promoting neovascularization ([2]). Moreover, in lung adenocarcinoma, oncogenic PVT1 mediates the suppression of MIR378C, thereby relieving its inhibitory effect on SLC2A1 and facilitating cell proliferation, migration, and invasion ([3])."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn pediatric malignancies such as Wilms tumor, MIR378C is similarly downregulated; its overexpression inhibits tumor growth and metastatic behavior via direct targeting of CAMKK2, reinforcing its tumor‐suppressive role ([4]). Furthermore, in the context of atherosclerosis, reduced MIR378C levels contribute to vascular smooth muscle cell phenotypic transition and promote LDL oxidation and foam cell formation by diminishing its repression of Samd1, whereas restoration of MIR378C is protective against lesion development ([5]). Collectively, these findings underscore the multifaceted functions of MIR378C as both a tumor suppressor and a modulator of vascular pathology—highlighting its potential as a promising therapeutic target."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Bing Li, Yilin Wang, Shiting Li, et al.
