MIR3922 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 3922
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nSeveral studies have delineated intricate regulatory networks in embryonic development and tissue homeostasis that converge on the modulation of Wnt signaling. For instance, one set of investigations demonstrated that in the developing retina, Six3 directly represses Wnt8b expression to enable proper neuroretinal specification, while in the forebrain, Wnt8b exhibits a tightly restricted expression pattern that, when perturbed, leads to altered levels of other Wnt genes without overt morphological defects. In addition, developmental patterning of the telencephalon involves a feedback interplay between Wnt8b, Fgf molecules, and transcription factors like Gli3, and misregulation of Wnt8b can perturb optic fissure closure as observed in coloboma models. Moreover, aberrant activation of Wnt8b in lung-resident mesenchymal stem cells initiates myofibroblast differentiation, contributing to pulmonary fibrosis. Collectively, these findings underscore a central role for balanced Wnt8b activity in mediating developmental signaling and tissue integrity."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn contrast to these developmental contexts, the microRNA miR‑3922 (specifically, miR‑3922‑5p) emerges as a critical regulator in breast cancer metastasis. Here, the long noncoding RNA HOXC‑AS3 is overexpressed in certain breast cancer subtypes and acts as a sponge for miR‑3922‑5p; this sequestration diminishes miR‑3922’s ability to downregulate its direct target, PPP1R1A, resulting in increased PPP1R1A protein expression that facilitates cancer cell invasion and migration. Thus, miR‑3922 normally plays a suppressive role by restraining PPP1R1A levels, and its inhibition by HOXC‑AS3 contributes to the metastatic progression of breast cancer."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "6"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Vassiliki Fotaki, Osmany Larralde, Shaoju Zeng, et al.
