MIR3941 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 3941
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent investigations have highlighted the protective role of miR‑3941 in the context of acute inflammatory injury. In a study on LPS‑induced acute pneumonia in children, miR‑3941 expression was found to be significantly downregulated, with its overexpression alleviating cell injury by reducing apoptosis and inflammation. Mechanistically, miR‑3941 directly targets insulin‑like growth factor 2 (IGF2), thereby modulating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway—a key regulator of cell survival. This suggests that restoration of miR‑3941 levels may serve as a promising therapeutic strategy in mitigating lung injury associated with pneumonia."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn lung adenocarcinoma, miR‑3941 has emerged as a critical tumor suppressor by modulating the expression of immunoglobulin (CD79a) binding protein 1 (IGBP1). Analysis of early invasive adenocarcinoma revealed that miR‑3941 is one of several downregulated microRNAs capable of binding the 3′UTR of IGBP1, leading to its suppressed expression. Functional assays demonstrated that reintroduction of miR‑3941 inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in lung cancer cell lines, thereby highlighting its role in countering oncogenic processes."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMoreover, the tumor‐suppressive functions of miR‑3941 extend to cervical cancer, where it is negatively regulated by the long non‑coding RNA RP11‑552M11.4. Acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), this lncRNA sequesters miR‑3941, leading to the derepression of activating transcription factor 1 (ATF1) and promoting oncogenic progression. Restoration of miR‑3941 levels in cervical cancer cells inhibits proliferation, migration, and invasion, underscoring its potential as a prognostic marker and therapeutic target in this malignancy."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Shinuan Fei, Lichun Cao, Liangzhi Pan "}, {"type": "b", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "microRNA‑3941 targets IGF2 to control LPS‑induced acute pneumonia in A549 cells."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " "}, {"type": "i", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Mol Med Rep (2018)"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " DOI: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10.3892/mmr.2017.8369"}], "href": "https://doi.org/10.3892/mmr.2017.8369"}, {"type": "t", "text": " PMID: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "29328418"}], "href": "https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29328418"}]}, {"type": "r", "ref": 2, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Taiki Sato, Aya Shiba-Ishii, Yunjung Kim, et al.
