| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 4282 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

Initial investigations sought to explore its expression and potential oncogenic roles, with one study examining its expression in breast cancer cells and another evaluating its involvement in colorectal carcinoma via its potential correlation with semaphorin 3E. These early efforts raised the possibility that miR-4282 may be deregulated in cancers and warrant further functional evaluation."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nIn subsequent, more mechanistically detailed studies, miR-4282 was found to function as a tumor suppressor in the context of oral squamous cell carcinoma by inhibiting proliferation, migration, and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition while inducing apoptosis. Mechanistic analyses identified LIN28B as a direct target, with downstream effects on ZBTB2 mRNA stability, collectively contributing to the inhibition of tumor progression. A parallel study in epithelial ovarian cancer further implicated miR-4282 in the regulation of metastasis through modulation of MIER1. Together, these investigations highlight the multifaceted role of miR-4282 in cancer biology, suggesting its potential as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Xing Kang, Meng Wang, Hao Wang, et al.
