MIR4304 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4304
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nA review of the provided abstracts reveals no direct mention or investigation of the microRNA MIR4304. Instead, the collected studies overwhelmingly focus on the multifaceted roles of the chemokine CXCL5 and, in some instances, its homologues (LIX, ENA‐78, GCP‐2) in regulating immune and inflammatory responses. In several reports, CXCL5 is shown to be a critical mediator of neutrophil recruitment and inflammatory cell trafficking in diverse experimental models ranging from pulmonary infections and acute lung injury to myocardial infarction, central nervous system viral encephalitis, and autoimmune arthritis. These studies demonstrate that CXCL5, largely acting via its receptor CXCR2, modulates chemotaxis, tissue remodeling, and cytokine production in a way that dictates both the magnitude and the tissue specificity of inflammatory responses."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "14"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nOther studies within this collection extend the role of CXCL5 to contexts such as metabolic regulation, angiogenesis, and the modulation of adaptive immunity in cancer and infectious diseases. For instance, CXCL5 derived from adipose tissue and cancer‐associated fibroblasts has been implicated in insulin resistance and tumor immunosuppression, respectively, while in the central nervous system and lung, CXCL5 contributes to the fine balance between protective host defense and pathological tissue injury. Collectively, these findings emphasize how CXCL5 expression is tightly controlled by upstream signals—including circadian rhythms, TLR activation, and cytokine cascades—and that its dysregulation may drive or ameliorate disease processes."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "15", "end_ref": "27"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn summary, while these 40 abstracts (spanning PubMed IDs"}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "28", "end_ref": "40"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "highlight an extensive network of inflammatory and reparative pathways controlled by CXCL5, none provide insight into a role for MIR4304.
