| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 4316 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In one investigation, miR-4316 was examined in the context of colorectal cancer screening via liquid biopsy, aiming to offer a less invasive alternative to colonoscopy. Although its precise mechanistic role in colorectal tumor biology was not fully delineated, the altered expression of miR-4316 suggests its potential as an early detection marker in colorectal cancer."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\nIn breast cancer, miR-4316 has emerged as a central component of a competing endogenous RNA regulatory network. Here, the circular RNA circMYO9B acts as a molecular sponge, binding miR-4316 and thereby relieving its repression on the FOXP4 gene. The subsequent upregulation of FOXP4 was shown to promote cellular proliferation, migration, and invasion, which, in turn, correlated with a worse prognosis for patients."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\nSimilarly, in bladder cancer, miR-4316 is functionally intertwined with the long noncoding RNA CALML3-AS1. CALML3-AS1 directly interacts with miR-4316, decreasing its availability and leading to the derepression of the downstream target ZBTB2. Elevated ZBTB2 expression contributes to tumorigenesis by repressing the cell-cycle inhibitor p21 and enhancing the transcription of PDK4, thereby facilitating cancer progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Paweł Krawczyk, Tomasz Powrózek, Tomasz Olesiński, et al.
