MIR4451 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4451
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

The investigation, which enrolled a total of 511 HSCC patients undergoing surgery followed by post‐operative radiotherapy, revealed that high MIR4451 expression—when combined with elevated levels of miR‑200a‑3p and miR‑30b‑5p—correlates significantly with poorer overall survival and disease‐specific survival. This finding suggests that MIR4451 plays a role in the aggressive behavior of HSCC, serving as a valuable component of a microRNA signature that can independently predict increased risks of mortality."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "In essence, the upregulation of MIR4451 is indicative of an unfavorable prognosis, and its integration into a prognostic biomarker panel could help stratify patients for personalized therapeutic approaches. Its association with approximately a twofold increased risk of both overall death and HSCC‐related death underscores the potential utility of MIR4451 as a clinical marker for identifying high‐risk patients who may benefit from more aggressive or tailored management strategies."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Xinbo Xu, Zhongming Lu, Neil Gross, et al.
