| Name | microRNA 4469 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent investigations into esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) have elucidated a novel oncogenic pathway in which MIR4469 plays a critical regulatory role. In particular, circRNA_141539 is significantly up-regulated in ESCC and acts as a sponge for MIR4469, thereby diminishing its normal inhibitory effect on cyclin-dependent kinase-3 (CDK3). Under appropriate conditions, MIR4469 appears to function as a tumor-suppressive microRNA by negatively regulating CDK3 expression. However, when sequestered by circRNA_141539, the suppression of CDK3 is relieved, ultimately promoting cell proliferation and invasion and correlating with more advanced tumor stage and poorer patient prognosis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn addition to these findings, emerging research into non-coding RNAs in cancer has begun to characterize other regulatory networks, such as those involving long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) like HLA complex group 11 (HCG11) in laryngeal carcinoma. Although MIR4469 is not directly implicated in these studies, the broader investigation of non-coding RNA interactions underscores the complexity of post-transcriptional regulation in tumorigenesis and the potential for crosstalk among various classes of regulatory RNAs."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Zheng-Hua Liu, Shi-Ze Yang, Wen-Ya Li, et al.
