MIR4472-1 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4472-1
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

Recent investigations have identified aberrant microRNA expression patterns, and one study specifically noted that elevated levels of MIR4472-1 are correlated with larger breast tumors and resistance to chemotherapy, underscoring its potential as an oncogenic factor. This early evidence suggests that MIR4472-1 may drive aspects of tumor aggressiveness while its exact molecular mechanism remains to be fully elucidated."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nIn depth, the noted association between increased MIR4472-1 expression and key clinical features such as chemoresistance implies that this microRNA could be central to pathways that promote cell survival and proliferation under therapeutic stress. Although the direct biological functions of MIR4472-1 have not been completely defined, its upregulation in chemoresistant breast cancer cells positions it as a promising target for further investigation."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\nComplementing these observations, parallel research into long non-coding RNAs—specifically the study on RP11-551L14.4—highlights a broader regulatory landscape in which non-coding RNAs interact to modulate gene expression and influence cancer development.
