| Name | microRNA 4487 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In a study focused on Parkinson’s disease models, in silico prediction and microarray analyses revealed that miR-4487 directly targets ULK1, a key kinase responsible for initiating the autophagic process. Experimental validation indicated that by binding to ULK1, miR-4487 modulates ULK1-mediated autophagy, suggesting that this miRNA may serve as a critical negative regulator within this pathway. This finding highlights an emerging role for miR-4487 in the neuroprotective response to cellular stress."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn a complementary line of research, the dysregulation of miR-4487 has also been implicated in vascular pathophysiology. Specifically, altered levels of miR-4487 are under investigation for their impact on the proliferation, migration, and apoptosis of vascular smooth muscle cells—key processes involved in atherosclerosis development. Although the precise molecular mechanisms remain to be fully elucidated, these studies suggest that miR-4487 might have potential as a biomarker or therapeutic target in cardiovascular diseases."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Yi Chen, Shuya Wang, Lan Zhang, et al.
