MIR4525 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4525
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

One investigation detailed the distribution and function of two V-ATPase G subunit isoforms—G1 and G2—in mice, with G2 being notably localized to synaptic vesicles in central nervous system neurons. Although this study (which focused on isoform characterization and subcellular localization) did not specifically address microRNAs, it underscores a cellular process that is known to be finely regulated at multiple levels, including by miRNAs such as MIR4525."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn a separate line of research targeting renal cell carcinoma (RCC), serum extracellular vesicles (EVs) were analyzed for their miRNA content in an effort to uncover novel, non-invasive diagnostic biomarkers. Within the broad spectrum of EV-associated miRNAs, MIR4525 has emerged as a candidate of interest due to its altered expression profile in RCC. Its differential presence in EVs suggests that MIR4525 could serve as a potential indicator of tumor-associated changes, offering promise for early diagnosis and disease monitoring."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn summary, while the direct functional role of MIR4525 was not examined in the V-ATPase study, the regulation of processes like synaptic vesicle acidification is well documented to involve post-transcriptional mechanisms that may include miRNAs. Concurrently, the discovery of MIR4525 among serum EVs in RCC patients supports its emerging role as a biomarker, potentially reflecting broader regulatory functions in both neuronal activity and tumorigenesis. Further research is warranted to delineate the mechanistic contributions of MIR4525 in these diverse physiological and pathological contexts.\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Yoshiko Murata, Ge-Hong Sun-Wada, Takao Yoshimizu, et al.
