| Name | microRNA 4526 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAlthough the provided abstracts do not mention MIR4526 specifically, they collectively highlight an important regulatory network centered on the adaptor protein WDFY1. In a study of neurodegeneration, PRDX6 overexpression was found to impair the neurogenesis of neural stem cells by downregulating WDFY1, which in turn led to decreased TLR4 signaling and reduced expression of neural differentiation markers. Restoration of WDFY1 expression reversed these defects, underscoring its critical role in neural homeostasis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAnother investigation focused on immune regulation demonstrated that the transcription factor Hes1 attenuates type I interferon production—not through direct repression of IFN genes, but by indirectly modulating TLR upstream signaling. Hes1 accomplishes this by binding to regulatory regions that enhance the expression of VEGF-C, a process that subsequently suppresses WDFY1. This mechanism serves to fine-tune IFN responses during viral infection and prevent autoimmune overactivation."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditionally, research into intestinal inflammation revealed that miR-511 deficiency confers protection against DSS-induced colitis, an effect linked to reduced TLR3/TLR4 responses via downregulation of Wdfy1. Complementary studies in the reproductive system showed robust expression of WDFY1 in the testes, yet its absence did not compromise spermatogenesis or male fertility. Importantly, while these studies collectively underline the pivotal role of WDFY1 in diverse biological contexts—including neurogenesis, innate immunity, and inflammation—they do not provide insights into the function of MIR4526."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "In Jun Yeo, Mi Hee Park, Dong Ju Son, et al.
