MIR4528 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 4528
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nDespite the fact that none of the provided abstracts explicitly mention MIR4528, these studies collectively elaborate on the complex molecular mechanisms governing GABAA receptor assembly, trafficking, and function in inhibitory neurotransmission. They detail how subunit composition—particularly the roles of α, β, γ, δ, and other variants—dictates the biophysical properties, cellular localization, and pharmacological profiles of receptors. In this context, MIR4528—if functionally linked—could be hypothesized to serve as a regulatory factor in fine‐tuning the expression levels or alternative splicing of GABAA receptor subunit genes, thereby indirectly impacting the balance between synaptic and extrasynaptic inhibition as well as overall receptor stability and signaling."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "6"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nOther reports emphasize the importance of subunit-specific interactions and post-translational modifications, such as glycosylation and phosphorylation, in modulating receptor kinetics, channel gating, and surface expression. These alterations have been shown to be critically involved in various neurological outcomes ranging from altered sedative responses to pathological states like epilepsy and schizophrenia. Given these intricate layers of regulation, MIR4528 might be similarly positioned as an important post-transcriptional regulator, possibly affecting messenger RNA stability or translation of particular GABAA receptor subunits or their associated proteins."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "7", "end_ref": "13"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nFurthermore, genetic mouse models have revealed that changes in the expression or function of key GABAA receptor subunits can lead to altered inhibitory synaptic transmission and behavioral abnormalities associated with seizure susceptibility, cognitive deficits, and mood disorders. Although the available abstracts do not directly address MIR4528, it is plausible to speculate that, as a microRNA, MIR4528 could contribute to these regulatory pathways by modulating gene dosage or the expression dynamics of receptor subunits and their interacting partners. This potential role would align MIR4528 with the broader molecular network that adjusts inhibitory tone in the brain and may ultimately influence clinical phenotypes observed in disorders such as epilepsy, schizophrenia, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "14", "end_ref": "17"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Jane H Ives, Debra L Drewery, Christopher L Thompson "}, {"type": "b", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Differential cell surface expression of GABAA receptor alpha1, alpha6, beta2 and beta3 subunits in cultured mouse cerebellar granule cells influence of cAMP-activated signalling."}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " "}, {"type": "i", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "J Neurochem (2002)"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": " DOI: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "10.1046/j.0022-3042.2001.00700.x"}], "href": "https://doi.org/10.1046/j.0022-3042.2001.00700.x"}, {"type": "t", "text": " PMID: "}, {"type": "a", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "11902122"}], "href": "https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11902122"}]}, {"type": "r", "ref": 2, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Yuri A Blednov, S Jung, H Alva, et al.
